Lightweight Planting Media

A critical part of growing plant material over a structure whether it be a green roof, rooftop garden or rooftop planters, is the essential role of the soil media. It must have reduced weight, allow excess water to drain from the system, limit compaction and prevent consolidation over time, support establishment and long-term growth of rooftop plants and meet industry compliance standards for roofing system components.

Utah Topsoil & Hauling Co. can blend specified components at prescribed rates to meet specifications or provide expertise in designing an in-house blend that will meet the project’s goals.

Intensive Lightweight Planting Media

Tested to meet industry standards for growing media in green roof systems. Approved by most green roof and rooftop garden system suppliers.

Rooftop Planter Media

Lightweight planting media blend consisting of fine graded lightweight aggregate, high-quality loamy screen topsoil and composted organics. This hybrid lightweight media is used for rooftop planters and related on-structure planting areas.

Lightweight Drainage Media

Lightweight granular drainage aggregate graded 1/4″ to 1/2″. Used as a drainage layer at the bottom of rooftop planters or as a drainage layer in green roof systems. Also commonly used to bridge gaps or fill void space over elevated structures or backfilling around walls.
