Structural Soils

Established trees are critical to our built environment and provide essential benefits to improve and sustain our living environment. However, establishing trees in highly urban areas can create challenges limiting a trees ability to properly establish causing it to underperform or die prematurely.

Structural soils provide an essential root development zone while still supporting the compaction and structural requirements associated with multiple pavement surface types. The enhanced development zone provides the necessary environment for proper tree root establishment and allows tree to reach full maturity.

Urban Tree Structural Soil

An engineered structural soil media consisting of coarse graded lightweight aggregate and high-quality screened loamy topsoil. The structural soil media is engineered specifically for tree plantings surrounded by pavement such as street tree plantings, parking lot island tree plantings and plaza or court yard tree plantings.

Drivable Grass Structural Soil

A structural soil designed specifically to be driven over by emergency vehicles, maintenance vehicles or passenger vehicles. The drivable grass structural provides a solid surface to withstand the weight of heavy vehicles that prevents deep rutting and maintains the critical root zone needed to support the natural grass.
